Body butter questions, answered
- UTANO Skin is a handmade Southern African body care studio. We whip shea, mango and avocado butters into rich double butters and hand butters, made in small batches in Harare, Zimbabwe.
- Every jar is made by hand in Harare, Zimbabwe. We work in small batches so each batch is whipped, filled and checked by a person rather than a production line.
- UTANO travels with our community. Jars are already in use across Zimbabwe (Harare, Gokwe and Kadoma), South Africa (Cape Town), the United Kingdom (London and Birmingham) and the United Arab Emirates (Dubai). Choose your currency at checkout and contact us if your country is not listed.
- Our double butters are built on shea butter, mango butter, almond oil, moringa oil, jojoba oil, vitamin E oil, arrowroot powder and beeswax. Every ingredient is listed on the product page for the jar you are looking at.
- No. Our butters contain beeswax, which is an animal-derived ingredient, so they are not suitable for a vegan routine. They are not tested on animals.
- The butters are unrefined and fragrance-light, and they are made for dry skin, rough patches and skin that drinks moisture quickly. If you have a known allergy — nut oils in particular, since we use almond oil — check the ingredient list on the product page first and patch test on a small area.
- Warm a small scoop between your palms until it melts, then press it into damp skin straight after a shower. A little goes a long way: the butter is whipped, not watered down, so start with less than you think you need.
- Keep the jar closed, out of direct sunlight and away from heat. Natural butters soften in warm rooms and firm up again as they cool — that change in texture is normal and does not affect how the butter works on your skin.
- That depends on how much of you it covers and how often you use it. Used daily on arms, legs and elbows, a 350ml jar of ROOTED typically lasts a season rather than a week — it is whipped, so you need far less per application than a lotion.
- Yes. We work with stockists and take bulk and gifting orders for events, hampers and corporate gifts. Email us and tell us roughly how many jars you need and when you need them.
