Mango butter and shea butter are not interchangeable. What each one is better at, and why we whip the two together.

People ask us which is better. The honest answer is that they do different jobs, which is exactly why our double butters contain both.
Shea is richer, sits longer and does more for genuinely rough, cracked or weather-beaten skin. It is also heavier, and on its own it can feel like a lot.
Mango butter is firmer in the jar but lighter on the skin, and it sinks in faster without leaving the same film. It softens without the weight.
That combination is what a double butter is. It is not two butters for the sake of a name — it is the only way we found to get shea's protection without shea's weight.

The UTANO studio is the small team in Harare, Zimbabwe who make every jar by hand. We whip the butters, fill the jars and answer the messages, so what we write here comes from doing the work rather than reading about it. We write about ingredients we actually use and skin we actually see.
